“Herói é o Povo” an urban art intervention was held throughout the night of 12 October 2012 at the Praça de Espanha in Lisbon. This intervention – illegal – with the intent to convey the message that union is necessary. The union of the people, the people as a national hero to overcome times of recession …
It was already announced and publicized the event that would happen that weekend; At a time when the population was especially unhappy, manifestations were repeated, the spirit of revolt was present on the face of all those who adhered to that shows of discontent.

The intervention “Herói é o Povo” held at the Praça de Espanha in Lisbon by 2CarryOn, was cover of the International Herald Tribune, the global edition of the New York Times. Not only the international media have focused the intervention performed. All the Portuguese media and press developed articles about Cultural Manifestation, with the illustrative photo, a sea of people, the people with the intervention on the background of every image. Numerous blogging sites, social media and the like, held shares of images with this intervention. Declared photo of the day by various media, this picture ran in a few hours the world, expressing discontent of the Portuguese.
“A Indignação saíu á rua”, magazine Domingo, in the Correio da Manhã of 27 October 2012, a photo-reportage where a great plan of intervention performed in the Praça de Espanha, because of the cultural event “Que se Lixe a Troika”.
“Quando o Povo sai á rua” was the title chosen for the present article in issue No. 2086 of the Revista, complement of Expresso newspaper of 20 October 2012, an article that discusses chronologically the different artistic interventions surrounded in the culture of protest in Portugal. This article gives a special attention to recent intervention “Herói é o Povo”.
